Report parameters
cha?s
Hi forum,
I create a new report parameter an set the Display type to List Box, the Data set to an existing Data set which returns only one result and the Display as Is Required. Running the Report in the local Web Viewer works fine. Changing the report parameter is not necessary.
After setting the parameter to Hidden it is not possible to open the report. Following message appear:
Value of required parameter[paramname] is not specified.
Is it not possible to set that parameter to hidden? The user mustn't change the parameter and therefor i would like to set it to hidden.

Hi cha?s,
Did you set the default value?
cha?s
Hi, no i did not because the value change every 2 hours.
I thought there is no need to set a default value because the data set for that parameter return only one value?

I'm guessing you'll still need to set a default and then change the value of the parameter to the appropriate value before you use it.

Or, since it's hidden, don't set it to Is required and make sure you set the value somewhere before you use it.

Mhh, strange. If I deselect the 'Hidden' flag then the report opens.
Why is the behaviour so different between setting and not setting the parameter?

If you have it set to "required" and "hidden" and don't have a default value for it, the parameter page never pops up, therefore, you don't have a value for a "required" parameter, so the report fails. If you don't hide it, the parameter page pops up and you can enter a value.

Michael,
how can I set the result from the Data Set to 'global'? I need access to that value in every chart item to control the visibility of some report elements.

cha?s,
If you just have one value in your dataSet that you need to use, you should just be able to store that value in a persistentGlobalVariable in the onFetch script of your dataSet and then recall that variable in all your charts. You'll just need to make sure that your dataSet is bound to an element that is before the elements that use this variable so that the data is available when the charts need it.

Perfect, that's it. Thank you for your help.
