Is there any way to show/hide the series label (bar chart) dynamically (probably using scripting) in 2.2.1?

Yes, through scripting. Here's a script that will hide all labels:

function beforeDrawDataPointLabel( dph, label, icsc )
{
label.setVisible(false);
}

Just add your own logic!
