Connection to access database from Iserver
magic_bern
Hi All,
I have create a report in Birt 2.3.2 connecting to an Access database using the microsoft DSN manager and i could run the report without any problem.
I have now set up the same in Isever but i keep geeting an error about architecture missmatch (Attached picture)
I beleive the problem might be due to the fact that iserver is installed on a 64bit server but not sure i had to use the C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe in order to be able to modify the DSN in the first place but it doesn't seem to do the trick.
How can i get Iserver to connect to the access datasource.
Thanks

Hi magic_bern,
After you have created DSN for MS Access Database, you will have to use a JDBC-ODBC bridge to talk to that DSN. Please note that JDBC-ODBC bridge is not supported in production.

Thanks Averma for the quick response.
Do you have any pointer on how to set up that bridge on the report? or is there another method to connect iserver to an access database in a way that is supported?.
Thanks

I am now using the sun jdbc odbc bridge and i am able to run the report in birt and connect to the access database.
but i am getting the same error when i try to run the report from iserver.
i have place the rt.jar file in the correct Iserver folder for jdbc drivers (C:\Program Files (x86)\Actuate11\iServer\Jar\BIRT\platform\plugins\org.eclipse.birt.report.data.oda.jdbc_2.6.2.v20110326-0603\drivers) but i a still have no luck.
Thanks

JDBC-ODBC bridge is not supported in iServer.

Is there any way i can create the reports so that they are available in Iserver?

You can try using third party pure java jdbc driver, if it exists.

Hi Averma,
I found a jdbc driver to connect to the access database. again i get it to work in birt but i am getting a different error when trying to run it on iserver. the error is:

Failed to Execute the report!
Error description: an exception occurred during the processing
please see the following message for details:
cannot open connection for the driver:
org.eclipse.birt.data.oda.jdbc.
org.eclipse.birt.data.oda.jdbc.JDBCException. there is
an error in get connection can't open an MDB file:
P:\path_to_file\file.mdb
Hi All,
I have finally managed to get the report from an access datasource to run an Iserver.
I found that the problem i was having with the jdbc-odbc bridge was due to the fact that Iserver was installed on a windows 2008 64bit server.
I had to install a 64bit odbc driver from the microsoft site: microsoft
64bit odbc driver
I then created 2 DSN (one 64 bit for iserver and one 32 bit so that the report would work in BIRT too)
i am now able to run the report in iserver and BIRT.
Thanks for the help.

What jdbc driver did you end up using?
