Data Binding for Report Item

Dear Community

I have to write a report item extension for Birt. I never worked with Birt before.
Writing an BIRT extension is the worst job i ever had, since there are no good
examples and the one and only book is absolutely unusefull...that's why I have a big
expectations in the community

.

I use the rotated Text example as base of my project. I added a databinding tab, to the
property window of my report item. How can i now access the defined binding, respectively
the data behind (search for getDataIBindedOnTheReportItem()

)? I don't wanna have
my report item in a table.

I'm happy for every little advice!

Thanks for the reply. Yes I did, this two tutorials are more or less the only source for developing an extensions. They describe the data binding in a table, but not how i can access a full dataset.

I'm building a report item, which uses a whole data set like the chart or the table...and yes, there is probably the source i have to look for the solution.
