Regarding installation of OpenDeploy5.6

Hi All,

I had OD5.5.1 with SP1,SP2 and all patches uptodate on both sender and receiver side. Now i want to go with OD5.6 on the dev for testing can i directly intall on that or do i need to uninstall the above once to go with this new version of OD5.6.

I'm planning an upgrade (haven't done it yet), and towards the end of the installation chapter in the Admin Guide, it says that when the install scripts detect an existing installation of 5.0 or higher, it'll prompt you to just to the upgrade.

Like I said, I haven't tried this, but check out the manual to see what I'm talking about.

First thing to point out: The installation instructions for OD 5.6 are in the "Installation and Reference Guide", rather than the Admin Guide as in previous releases.

If you have OD 5.5.1 installed (with any, all or no service packs), the 5.6 installer will automatically detect this and walk you through an upgrade installation process. All config files should be preserved.

If you have OD 5.0.1 or 5.0 installed, the 5.6 installer will detect this and ask you to uninstall the old release before installing OD 5.6. (Note: OD 5.5.1 supports an upgrade install from OD 5.0.1 only. So you can upgrade-install OD 5.5.1 first, followed by OD 5.6. In the end, all config files should be preserved.)

If you have OD 4.5.x installed, OD 5.6 can be installed along side it. This is *not* an upgrade install. Just make sure you select a different directory and listener port. (Default port for OD 5.6 is different than default for OD 4.5.x.)

Please also note that OD 5.6 is capable of deploying to older OD versions; specifically to OD 5.5.1 and OD 5.0.1. But if you are using the OD Admin software, you must upgrade it to 5.6.
