Pagination problem while merging two report

Hi All,

I have a issue related to merging two or more reports.
The requirement is I need to open two report in one window (PDF and/or HTML Format) one after other.I am able to use page break so next report will open from new page.But the problem is its Total Page Count shows total no of pages of two reports.
I want to show each report with its own page sequence so the first page of next report starts from page 1
and Total page of each report shows its own no of page only

I want to know , is it possible technically.If yes then how or is their any alternative of this issue.

What i have written is my requirement.
And what i am doing is I am taking three different tables on same page(each table is accessing same data set), and Doing page break for each table .
So i met my requirement partially but pagination is not proper for each table data.

Oh, so you've designed a single report, but want the page numbering to start over for each "section" within the report? Is this correct? If so, let me know your BIRT version and I'll try to come up with an example for you. If not, let me know.

I am using "Eclipse Platform Version: 3.4.1".
What i am doing hear is I have three table on same page(one .rpt).I have done pagebreak along with that i have included three separate master page with each page break.But at end it is taking page number for all pages.

Here other changes are visible.Like i am printing today's date at footer of each page and removed from middle table.so this is reflecting.But for total page no it is taking all pages in count.

That must be BIRT 2.3.1. The solution I was going to try was with report/page variables that were introduced in BIRT 2.5, so we won't be able to do that one. We might be able to achieve the same thing with persistentGlobalVariables through. I'll give it a shot and attach the report in here if it works.

Check out this report. I only have 2 "sections", so I only had to set one PGV. If you had more sections, you'd need to set more. I did so in the footer of the first table. Each table is on its own masterpage. In the footer of each masterpage, you'll see a dynamic textbox that says, "Will be replaced in onRender script", or something along those lines. If you look at the onRender script of each, you'll see how I used the one PGV to set different page count values for each "section". Hope this helps. Let me know if you have questions. This report was designed in BIRT 2.3.1.

Please provide me a example with three tables.It would be of great help for my devlopment 
One more thing .. Is there any issue to this if i am using samedataset with all three tables

I am gating Page 1 of 1 on all pages of 1st section and similar wrong sequence for other section also.
Can you please give me a example with three table with some steps to do that, because i think i am taking some wrong step in this.

By taking reference of previous post i have set two variable accordingly. Have defined three Dynamic text with script that you have taken. But still i am getting page 1 of 1 on all pages. 
 
I have set two global variable on footer of first two table and taken Dynamic text as you have taken exactly . 
After this i don't know if i am missing some thing.

I am sorry. I am restricted to do that because this is related to project ..

What i have done so far is i have added scripts at five places in total exactly same as you did.
Added two variable on footer (onCreate)and three dynamic text on footer of three respective master pages.

I am using same dataset for all three table

That's all about changes i copied from your example.

Now i dont know what i am missing

Without seeing your design, I'll have a hard time helping figure out what went wrong. If you can create a new sample report with the sample database and do exactly what you did to your report to the new sample report, I'll try to help!

I have created a sampal report.Have added scripts at respective five places ,and it is working as expected. 
 
But in actual report it is not working. So as of now i understand from this is my report is not of that kind. 
In sampal report there are one header (WITH 5 OR 6 COLUMN ) and its query brings data by multiple iteration .So as page get completed it increment its page count..... 
 
In my actual report i have actually more then 70 Columns . On execution of my query in database this query come up with only one row of data and i am arranging this 70 dataset in whole body of my report.So its first suppose 35 colume comes in one page, second suppose 20 column on 2nd page and third suppose 15 on last page.And so this is showing Page 1 of 1 on all three page .That means there is no iteration of data.. 
Similar for other section also.. 
 
So i want to know if this is possible with this kind of situation where we have more than 70 data bindings and all are arranged on multipal pages, adn its query comeup with only one row of data...

Hmmm. Can you try to set something like this up in a sample report with either the sample database or with a csv or xml data file, so I can take a look at your situation?

Hi Michael,

I have tried to reproduced my issue with "TestReport.rptdesign" (taken from this post).
Here i have inserted so many text data so that the Table itself extend to multiple pages.
The only difference with my report is that here i have taken only text message , and in my report there are labels and data binding pair.With this pair there are also some dataBinding that map to such a field whose data can goes into more then 100 line of text so it only can goes into 2 or 3 pages.

You can see my actual problem by runing this "TestReport.rptdesign" in Web Viewer and then export report to PDF. There you can see on footer of pages There are Page 1 of 1 on all page.

I have not done anything with third table , so paging of third table is absolutely correct . Problem can be visualize with data of first and second table only. There we are geting "Page 1 of 1" on all pages instead of "Page n of m" where n,m varies accordingly..........

Please suggest me the sol. for this.

Unfortunately, I don't think that there is a good way to handle grids on page breaks. They don't cause the page break interval to be tripped and there is not a hard page break set, so the end of page events aren't called. This is where the problem comes in. If your problem is what you said above that you have many columns and they cause multiple pages, you could simply break these up into tables that fit on the page and take that into account when you figure your page numbers. If it's mulitline rows that you have and not a grid like this one, which I'm assuming you don't have this setup, then you could calculate the lines that would fit on the page and force page breaks to cause the end of page events to fire and the pageNumber variable to increment. So, short of upgrading to 2.6.2, this is the only solution I see here based on what I understand.

As i am gating from last post you are saying me to upgrade BIRT version to 2.6.2. But for me it would be huge change in project and that might not be possible. So i am looking for any alternative in existing version . The one way that you suggested is to count and call page breaks ,that would also be not feasible for my situation .

Is it not possible to follow page mechanism of PDF it self. It is what we see in e-book first few page follows i ,ii ,iii, iv,v,......etc and then it starts 1,2,3,4,5......

Without page break methods being called for natural page breaks, the pageNumber variable you have access to is not correct, so it makes it hard to make custom page numbering for your groups. You could try making these reports in separate report designs and then use iText to join them in PDF, rather than putting them into the same design. This may help your page numbering situation if BIRT's auto-text numbers your pages correctly with this situation.
