So, exporting to open office displays the xls xml rather than the report? What is your birt and open office versions?

Hi ravishanku,<br />
<br />
BIRT writes xls files as xml. In the latest of openoffice also, I had problems opening the generated xls. You need to have Microsoft office excel, atleast the reader to open the document and to be very sure.<br />
<br />
Regarding some data coming and some not, it happens with xls. pdf output is not exactly mapped with xls, to achieve a near about resemblance, you need to tweak the designer such that all columns are displayed. There is no straight forward answer on what is to be done, but by trial and error, the expected result can be obtained.<br />
<br />
Regarding images not exported, existing BIRT xls emitter does not support exporting images and charts, you can always request an enhancement at the eclipse bugzilla. I would suggest you to try out tribix emitters for exporting images.<br />
<br />
Hope this clarifies.<br />

Tribix is also an open source project. Its hosted on <a class='bbc_url' href='
http://tribix.sourceforge.net/'>sourceforgenet.com</a>
. You can add it as a plugin to eclipse.<br />
The only thing that concerns me about tribix is, its a very old emitter, though very capable. No recent release has happened. You can probably try it out and post some feedback about it.<br />

As Birt generates the Excel file in xml format it would be best if extension is .xml. At least we did encounter Excel showing an popup informing that file is of different format what the extension suggest. After a while that gets annoying and if you don't know the meaning or reason it makes you wonder what is going on.
We also run into problems while generated reports by email. With some Outlook Web Access clients when opening the file it is empty. This depends on email server configuration.

BIRT 3.7.0 has added emitters for Open Document Spreadsheet, Text, and Presentation.
