Assigning the dataset single column values into variables

Can anyone pls help me on this... I badly in need of help in this....

Could you use the "concatenate" aggregation function in a computed column to do what you're wanting? You could use spaces as the separator. Or, you could use a crosstab to display the names out in columns.

The maximum count of the values would be 8.

So i need to create 8 variables and store each value in it respectively..

In your beforeOpen script of your dataSet, put: i=1;

Then, in your onFetch script, you could create a script like:

reportContext.setPersistentGlobalVariable("variable" + i.toString(),row["column2"]);
i++;

Now, each row is in its own persistent global variable named variable1, variable2, etc...

You can now call those where you want with reportContext.getPersistentGlobalVariable("variable1") and so on.

I tried ... Thh values are stored in different variables as per my requirement.Thank you..But

I do have 5 group by conditions in my report.

As per the report, each group mush diaplay its own values.

After using the script given by you, all the groups are populating the same values for every group.(In this report same 8 values are repeated for all the groups)

Please advice me on this....

I'm not sure I understand your setup, so I'm not certain what's causing this. You could try moving the i=0 statement to the initialize method of your report design rather than in the beforeOpen script. Then, in your report design, you'd just have to handle the fact that the variable count wouldn't stop at 8, it'd keep counting. Hope this makes sense.

Sorry to say this i do not get the required answer.

Intially i used the following script
valtxt += (valtxt != "" ? "/" : "") + this.getRowData().getColumnValue("Column2")+"";

in the Oncreate of the detail row, to to append the eight values.

I slightly modified the script as(not appending.Trying to store value in a variable)

valtxt=this.getRowData().getColumnValue("Column2");

When i display the valtxt in the report, it returns one value of those 8 values.

How can i individually store eight values in eight diffrent variables using above script.Is der any possibility.

This is the same thing as using the PGV. The difference is, we can name the PGV's dynamically, therefore, you can access them dynamically as well. Make a sample report with either CSV data or the sample database that shows the issue you're having and I'll help you modify it to do what you're wanting.

Please see the sample report which is attached.The Actual output is also attached.

The dataset has two Columns Country and City.

Grouped by COUNTRY.Under the country , all the cities will be displayed horizontally after appending.

The appended values will be stored in one variable "valtxt".

[Initialized in the report and also in group header Oncreate..The sript for appending will be at Detail row Oncreate().]

Since it is stored in single variable , the problm exists in alignment.

Please help me storing each value to an individual variable .So that i can populate each variable in each cell in the report.

With thanks to you, mwilliams, for the group rownum script. I just couldn't manage to figure that one out myself. That certainly is one to remember!

My display has to be like this:

Country
CITY1, CITY2,.... should be the label on the individual cells.
Below that all the city names should display in each cell below CITY1, CITY2 etc..

Below CITY1, the first city shold display , in a same column.

Similarly for other cities..

In the sample report , u can see many cities.

But in my original report u will be having oly 8 cities(eight values).

I think this makes u clear........

Oly eight values will be der in a group. So in the report all the eight values are to be diaplyed horizontall like below 
 
Country 
CITY1----CITY2----CITY3---CITY4-- CITY5-CITY6-- CITY7----CITY8

(please note the values a,b,c,d,e,f,g,h are from same column in the dataset.) 
A should be displayed exactly below CITY1 
B should be displayed exacltly below CITY2 without appending.

In the attached report more than 8 values will be der. In my report oly 8 will be coming from a column for a group. So each group will report different set of eight values. 
 
My queries for you: 
 
1) Can v use single dimension array to store eight values for the group and pulling each array[0],array[1] under CITY1,CITY2... 
 
2) PGV script cannot be used since all the group values displays same 8 values repeatedly. 
 
 
Is der any other alternete solution for this apart from the above two.Kindly let me know....

If you only have 8 values each time, I'm thinking that using an outer table and then a grid with embedded tables that use filters to separate the values will be the way to go. I think I posted an example of it in another thread you're in, but I'll put the example in here too. I only put 4 across in the example and since some have more than 4 cities, they go to the next line, but the idea should do what you want.

Try changing the version info in the top of the xml source to match the version info in one of your other report's xml source. If Hans' report doesn't use features that are not available in your version, it might let you open it, though if there are structure changes to the design between versions, it won't work.
