how to get data set column into script

Hi,

I am very new to BIRT.
I am ploting graph from dataset(which returns two columns with multiple records as output.ex: col1,col2).
Now on rendering graph in script i need to check if col2 is null,need to do something.
I am using BIRT 2.6.1 verstion.
Please let me know how to check col2 is null or not in script.

Where are you trying to check the value of column2? Is this on a row by row basis? Or is the column either empty or filled? Can you explain more of your situation? Thanks!

from sql server.I am buliding dual axis graph in chart onRender() event,I need to check if col2(I am building second axis line by using this data) is null,in tat case i should not show that axis line.

So I need to check col2 is null or not in onRender event.

In col2, all values will be null or all will have data? Is this how it will be? If so, you can access this value outside of the chart in your dataSet and pass it to your chart. Would this work?

Hi here are the possible solutions for you

1. At database level
select * from tablename where Col2 is not null

2. Birt query
select col1,COALESCE(col2,'') from tableName.
The above query will replace null with '' in case of DB2.

I am not using query,using stored proc with multiple input-parameters.As part of that I am passing systemid,for some systemids col2 all values are null,in this case i need to check condion in chart onrender script.Please check below script code.at line if(SID=="sys1" || SID=="sys2"){.insted of if condtion on SID ,I need to replace with col2 null check condition.

In your initialize method, you can set a PGV variable to 0, i.e.
reportContext.setPersistentGlobalVariable("col2Check","0");

In your onFetch method of your dataSet, you can check each col2 row to see if there is a non-null value, i.e.
if (row["col2"] != null){
reportContext.setPersistentGlobalVariable("col2Check","1");
}

If this if statement is ever satisfied, you essentially flip a switch. You can now access this value in your chart's onRender script with icsc.getScriptable().getPersistentGlobalVariable("col2Check"). If it's 1, you know there are non null values. If it's still 0 as you initialized it, all values are null.

Sorry, I didn't reread the off the top of my head script of what the path to the function was before hitting submit last post. Try icsc.getExternalContext().getScriptable().getPersistentGlobalVariable("varName").

I tried this
var VDARC=icsc.getExternalContext().getScriptable().getPersistentGlobalVariable("VDARCCheck");
now I am not getting script error.

But I am facing one problem am not getting clue wat happening.
when I ran the report from webviewer its working properley.but when i ran as pdf or ppt,not getting the same.
Here i am attaching the images for refference.

What if you run it in the webviewer and then export it to PDF. Does it work then?

But did you export the report to PDF from the web viewer or did you just choose "PDF" from the run as list in the designer? If you just selected PDF from the designer, please try running it in the web viewer and then exporting to PDF and letting me know if the same issue happens. Thanks!

If I did export from web viwer,its displaying correctly.
But when i choose PDF from run tab its not displaying correctly.
my intention is why it is not working wth straight PDF option.
Please let me know the reason.

Nitha,

I believe this is because running the straight PDF option from "run" uses the RunAndRender task rather than the two tasks separately. If you deploy the viewer and use the "frameset" url with the format=pdf url parameter, it should run as if you exported it from the viewer using the designer. If you used the "run" url option, it would run like if you just chose PDF from the run menu in the designer. Hope this helps.

Soon we are going to give rpt file to customer.
we are not deploying viewer,as per my knowledge they are going to click on pdf from run tab.
In this case it will not work.
Is there any solution for this to cantrol.

Besides writing a java file to run the report using run and render tasks separately, you could just give them the instructions of running the web viewer and then exporting to PDF. Or you show them the instructions on deploying the report design to be able to access their report with a URL.
