Cross tab hangs system

Hi,
I built a report with cross tab feature where my database resides somewhere else and i configure it in the datasource. The query execution taking a lot of time at that time my system working fine. After execution completed at db server birt taking lot of memory and CPU time to generate report, my system hangs at that movement. It is working fine with normal table structure. But when i use cross tab feature system gets slow down.

Is it problem with birt or naturally it takes that much of CPU time to construct final output.
Is there any solution?

How much data are you pulling in? A crosstab does a lot of computation, so a lot of data will cause it to take a long time. If using a SQL query, doing as much of your grouping and calculations as you can outside of BIRT will probably decrease the processing time.
