Blank report after a long time in web viewer
dsrikanth
Hi to all,<br />
<br />
In my report i have a query which is taking a long time to execute at database (lot of joins and functions).<br />
I am viewing the report in Web viewer, while running the report it displaying the progress bar, but after some time(1hr.) it goes blank. The query may take more than 1hr time to execute, but after that web viewer doesn't displays anything on the screen. Is the session expires? It is not displaying any errors even.<br />
<br />
I am getting this error when i am running this report in tomcat 6.0<br />
<br />
<pre class='_prettyXprint _lang-auto _linenums:0'>java.lang.IllegalStateException: The viewing session has expired.

In your viewer.properties file, is the value of viewer.session.timeout set to 0 so that it doesn't time out?

If you run a simple report that doesn't take much time, it runs without the error?
dsrikanth
Thanks for the reply Williams,<br />
<br />
Running the simple report is not my requirement, I need to run reports on huge enterprise data, so that i need to maintain session for a long time. Why birt is taking lot of memory to run the report? My tomcat server shutting down because of insufficient memory(OutOfMemory) while processing the crosstab report. I have a 2GB of ram and i configured tomcat like<br />
<br />
Initial Memory Pool : 512 MB<br />
Maximum Memory Pool : 1024 MB<br />
<br />
I am attaching the <strong class='bbc'>expected pdf output</strong> file, csv and report files. Pls help to get desired result (Left columns headers). I am using tomcat 6.0 (not installer), birt 2.6. Pls tell me how to configure tomcat to use max memory.<br />
<br />
Regards,<br />

My reason for having you try a simple report was to see if this was an issue that was happening regardless of the report complexity and amount of data. How many MB of data are you processing?
dsrikanth
Thanks Williams,
I tried simple report, it works fine. Whenever it processing 1 month data(More than 86MB csv export) It stops working and taking lot of memory for a long time.

Hi williams,<br />
Even i am seeing the same behavior, for me reports run properly from Eclipse BIRT dev setup, where viewer.properties file has viewer.session.timeout = 0.<br />
<br />
But when i run report from using tomcat server, screen goes blank for report that takes longer time to appear.<br />
<br />
Any help?
mwilliams
What is your output type you're trying to have? HTML? PDF? Paginated Viewer?
When you run from the designer, what are you doing to run the report?
When you run it from Tomcat, what URL are you using?
Let me know.
pratim
Hi William,
Output type is HTML.
when i run from the designer i used, "view report in webviewer"
When i am running from Tomcat, the url is "
http://xx.****.xx.xx/frameset?__document=documents\ReportTmp_admin_336651721385798&__svg=false&__user=admin&__dbUrl=jdbc:postgresql://127.0.0.1:5432/collector"
;
Also, did some google and found this "
http://www.eclipse.org/forums/index.php?t=tree&goto=259184&S=5f3bc28cf3c97fa4b05c9ebd2ff7a817#page_top"
;
But i did not get where can i found and set the value of "readTimeOut property".
Thanks.
mwilliams
That was a property of their websphere server, so if you're not using websphere, this probably won't help. If you look in the web.xml under apache -> conf -> web.xml, there is a "session-timeout" value that can be set. In my web.xml, it is set to 30 minutes. You could try increasing this to see if it helps.

<p>I know this is an old post, but I might add some suggestions for others with similar issues.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Just a note when running in webviewer you are rendering an rptdocument. An output has not been chosen yet.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>What I have found in the case that you are using a fixed layout, the rptdocument itself may perform very poorly.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>In the case that you may be eventually using Excel, I would suggest using an auto layout. I have seen 65% reductions in rptdocument size by making this adjustment.</p>
