How can I show trends using previously run reports as datasources
gsenno
Hey Guys,
We are currently evaluating Actuate iServer for our business.
We will be using it to get statistics from our databases and dataservices.
So, for instance, we will be generating daily reports showing how many rows of some table have NULL in some columns and stuff like that.
An important requirement is that we can show the evolution of this counts over time (a weakly summary, for instance).
We currently don't store historic values in our DBs.
This seems like a pretty standard scenario, but I had no luck googling for an standard solution.
Should we have our daily reports store it's contents in a historic DB?
Or, maybe, we can use those reports as datasources for our weakly report?
Any ideas will help.
Thanks
Gabriel.

Hi Gabriel,
Either of those solutions could work. Having a historic DB would be a more versatile approach, but you could also store the historic report documents (rptdocuments) and use it as a data source for your BIRT reports to show trends. etc.
