WebSphere 6.1 Runtime Problem
lenburt
Hello out there:
I am running into an issue with several reports running under WebSphere...they work fine in the Designer and when deployed to Tomcat. It seems to do with the class loader; i have made the class loader changes recommended in another post related to WebSphere 6.0.1 deploys. Any help would be appreciated. -- len

What version of BIRT are you using? See this bug:

Jason - yes, that does explain the issue -- our legacy application uses DB2 and is running in the same server as i deployed the birt.war. When i deploy to a fresh WAS 6.1 without our application, things work fine. We are running with the 2.6.2 Engine. Should i assume that the only recourse is to create a separate server within WebSphere? -- len

Len,
You could re-open the bug and ask what the fix was and possibly back port the fix. It may be a complex fix as the classloading mechanism change drastically since that release though.

Jason - thanks, i will ponder that -- we have a very short time frame until our release so i may create a separate server -- in a way, i like separating the apps from a container perspective so it may be worth the additional effort. -- len

Sounds good. Post if you need any help.

Jason (or others) -- i guess i have one concern with this problem. So far we had been testing with Oracle and WebSphere but we also need to support BIRT hitting a DB2 database on a z/os mainframe. Does this problem imply that we are going to have a conflict when we try to run with that configuration? I believe that IBM middleware called DB2Connect provides me with the JDBC driver which i will need to connect to the back end DB2 database but the bug worries me that i will get this same error. Should i be concerned? Are there folks out there running BIRT 2.6.2 under WebSphere 6.1 hitting a DB2 database? -- len

Len,
I think that was an earlier version of BIRT with the problem. I think 2.6.2 is fine. You could post a comment to the bug if you would like.
