Opening Excel Report in OpenOffice.org

Plsssssssss helpppp.....

I am not able to open excel report in OpenOffice.org...!!!!!!!!!
I am searching for an answer for this for a long time but havnt got a steady answer for this....is it possible to export or not ?????????

Its coming perfect in ms-excel.......but i need it in OpenOffice itself....!!!!

the same happens with a *.doc-File. You could try LibreOffice for Ubuntu, that works.

You could also try using the Tribix XLS emitter. It could be BIRT's XML XLS output that is causing the issue. The Tribix emitter is a binary XLS emitter.

Yaa i downloaded the tribix emitter and put in ma project plugin files.......

this is the folder name: org.uguess.birt.report.engine.emitter.xls_2.5.1.201001221050

still i cant find any change.......no errors tooo !!!!
is der any spl code to be used in ma project to make this work.....

Unfortunately, if neither of those XLS outputs works for OpenOffice, then you'll most likely have to find an XLS emitter for BIRT that works with OpenOffice that someone has written that you can get or you'll have to write one yourself. I don't have OpenOffice on my computer, so I haven't tested this on my own, but I have heard of others having issues with OpenOffice and the BIRT XLS output.

Arctorus ODS emitter is commercial but it can export reports to native OpenOffice Calc format. XLSX emitter creates Microsoft Excel 2007-2010 documents and OpenOffice also can open it without any problems. Hope it will help.

BIRT 3.7.0, which was just released yesterday, has new emitters for Open Text, Open Presentation, and Open Spreadsheet. Updating will probably be the easiest way to get the results you want.

I downloaded Birt 3.7.0 (All in One)....but i am not able to get the preview of the report design...
The eclipse gets closed (gets crashed down) as it is generating the preview....i tried on it a lot...
what will i do now ????

One more thing...
I have to use this report in the web server..so i downloaded the birt-runtime-3_7_0.zip to get the new lib files..but when i run the project its getting a null pointer exception when genereating the birt engine...(not even getting any of the reports)..
so i replaced the old lib files...now its running but no EXCEL REPORTS...(back to the previous state)

Give me some solution for both plssss !!!

Me tried out "WebViewerExample" which i got from birt-runtime-3_7_0.zip....
Its still not exporting excel in OpenOffice....this "WebViewerExample" was a sample project for deploying in the servers...i did it but no good result...

Have you tried creating a new report design in your 3.7.0 download and running it with the open spreadsheet emitter?

Hipeeeeeeee !!!! At last i got the Excel report in OpenOffice.. 
Actually no need to design new report in the new 3.7.0 birt...the old designed report is enuf but with few changes as follows: 
 
The plugins in the birt-runtime-3_7_0.zip (birt-runtime-3_7_0\ReportEngine\lib) doesnt have the emitter plugins for .ods formats... 
we have to add those from the birt-rcp-report-designer-3_7_0.zip plugins dir... 
 
For .ods report the plugins are as folllows: 
org.eclipse.birt.report.engine.emitter.ods.config_3.7.0.v20110602.zip 
org.eclipse.birt.report.engine.emitter.ods_3.7.0.v20110602.zip 
org.eclipse.birt.report.engine.odf_3.7.0.v20110609.zip 
 
These you have to add to the lib dir of your "webproject" 
 
All these zip's can be downloaded from here....

That is odd that the emitters are not included with the runtime. You might want to log a bug for this at http://www.birt-exchange.org/org/resources/bug-reporting/ if this is the case.

still in xml format means your .ods zip file has not been installed correctly ... !!! check all the new plugins are correctly installed ... !! send me your result

I could'nt sen the .ods file..so,i got prtscreen it.
But,I already copied the 3 plugins into lib folder..Is there any other
steps i missed.
When i view from eclipse,no problem..Using server(jboss) i cant export to openOffice..

have you changed this ?? ...options.setOutputFormat("ods"); the output format should be in ods, then only the convertion will occur

this is ur action class .... you have to call this action class from your jsp to generate the report .... did you configure the birt engines n all !!! you have to describe birt engine class also ... i have attached the birt configuration file also .. you can google for more details ...
