Recursion with BIRT?

I have already set a topic with this name in the BIRT with RSM, but here it goes once again.

My task is to create a report that would go through the UML model and exactly as its tree structure there, create a tree structure in the report. The point is to use a row only once - further on it would go by itself with a recursion.

I don't know if I have explained the problem very well, but I really some help in here

The only way I have found to create a tree structure layout is create a nested table for each level deep you need to report. Setup a parameter in the dataset that allows you to link children records to the parent.

You need to create a nested table for each level of the hierarchy you want to report. If you have 6 levels, you need 6 tables.

Thank you Paulk for your answer. Unfortunately, I have done it already like that, and in this small test case it works perfectly.
The thing is that this way is nearly not the best when it comes to big UML models whose structure is very complicated and deeply leveled. If anyone comes up with someone, I'd really appreciate it

Where are you reading the UML model from?
Can you build the recursion in your query? In that case it's a matter of getting the recursion LEVEL in your query and build a javascript function to add spaces in front of the selected value.

I'm not sure what you mean by "Where do you read the UML model from?" If I understood you right, I'm reading it from my workspace, so that shouldn't be a problem. I have also determined the level by counting "::" in the qualifiedName column. What should my script then contain? However, the script would still be dependend of the level, am I right?

I mean, the way your UML model is saved, depends on the UML modelling tool you're using. Or am I wrong? I'm not a UML expert.
So:
- Is the UML model saved in a database?
- Is it in a XML file?
- Is it in some other type of file?

I wasn't able to build recursion in a report with an XML datasource.

Hope someone else comes up with a solution.

My issue is very similar to this one:

The only difference is, I don't want my packages to be sorted by qualified names, but by aliases. The problem is, if I sort it by aliases, the tree structure (subpackages level) is violated.

Let me show what I want. My current situation (sorted by qualifiedName; in brackets is the alias) is something like this:

A (20)
Aa (10)
Aa1 (50)
Ab (20)
B (10)
Ba (70)
Ba1 (30)
Ba2 (20)
etc.

What I want to accomplish, is next:

B (10)
Ba (70)
Ba2 (20)
Ba1 (30)
A (20)
Aa (10)
Aa1 (50)
Ab (20)
etc.

Names and aliases are columns in my dataset.
I guess I need to use some scripting, but I don't get it

Any help?
