Debugging Java Event Handlers

Whats the best setup for debugging eventhandlers written in Java? I need access to the the httpservletrequest object because I would like to pass additional parameters(non-report) in the query string opf the url and I'm having a hard time coming up with a solution.

If you want to pass additional parameters through the URL, you could set up a hidden string parameter and pass your parameters through it and parse them out into the values you need inside the report.
