Export report as .txt

Hey guys!

Is there any possibility to export the report as a simple .txt file? I have a Python script that reads my report, and it would be too complicated for any other export format. Being able to export a report as a .txt file should actually be a basic thing, but obviously it's not

There is a csv emitter out there. Would that work?

That could pretty much help. Where to find it? My BIRT version supports only .doc, .xls, .pdf, .ppt and .ps formats of file export.

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately, I am facing two problems: 1) My BIRT is under RSM 2) I can not find the ReportEngine directory since the installation is not on my local computer.

Any suggestions?

You should still be able to create and add the csv emitter plugin regardless of #1. For #2, you don't have access to add the plugin? If you don't have access to add a new emitter plugin, but can write reports, you could include code in your report to write your report data out to a text file.

So, I could do some scripting in the afterRender event for the whole document with importing the CSV emitter package or? Can you give me some example?
I know this sounds total dumbass, but I am completely frightened of this scripting thing

I was thinking of importing the java.io package and using it in your script to write out the data either from the dataSet script or from your table's script.

Ok, so I have done an import of the java.io package in the initialize event of the report and defined my output file, as well as the filewriter. Rows of the list are being written in the onCreate event of every row with out.writeln(this.getValue()). As soon as I run my report, containing the out.writeln command in the script, I get an error and my .txt file stays blank.
What to do?

So, I managed to get it handled with the error (I used out.write(this.text)), but my .txt file stays empty (or when I create a new one, it is not even created). 
 
initialize script:

I have the feeling that the scripts execution is not triggered at all since no files are created, and when I put a simple command like this.context = "bla bla" in the onCreate event of the dynamic text, it doesn't change anything

Does your text file even get created? Try entering the entire path to where you want the file rather than just a file name. Maybe it's not creating it where you're looking.

I tried that already, and still nothing. Even searched the whole filesystem for the file, same. I have the feeling I am running the report wrong, because somehow, the scripts don't trig at all

When I set this up, I get the file. I didn't notice before, but in the onCreate, you'll need to add the importPackage line again. This is the only way it'll work. Try that and let me know.

Hey mwilliams, can you tell me how do you run your report? None of my scripts execute when I run my report (Run -> Report Configurations). I added the importPackage line, but my biggest problem is the file is not created at all. Not in my workspace, not on any of my disc partitions. 
 
I guess that something is wrong with my running machine, else I don't get it :S
