BIRT output through PDF to an Epson DFX-8500

I have a client we are designing a "check" for that uses an Epson DFX-8500 printer to print the checks. I finally have the alignment correct and have the layout correct. The font (no matter what I try) is not clear when it comes from Adobe. If they print from Word the alignment is off but the font is perfect. I need to know if anyone has any advice for printing to the Epson or can you help me script an 8.5 X 7 form feed check to print size wise correctly through word.
