Multi Level Grouping
arjunmanju
Hi all,

In the report we are doing first level grouping, ie.. for example Product,Category,Location etc

(Please see the attached image bi.jpg)

for first level grouping option we are giving radio button for users as above image

first level is like below

product
Column1 Column 2 Column 3 Column 4
DETAIL ROW DETAIL ROW DETAIL ROW DETAIL ROW

product2
Column1 Column 2 Column 3 Column 4
DETAIL ROW DETAIL ROW DETAIL ROW DETAIL ROW

product3

Column1 Column 2 Column 3 Column 4
DETAIL ROW DETAIL ROW DETAIL ROW DETAIL ROW

----> second level of grouping is like after grouping on product again on product1 data it shud group .... for that below the radiobutton ....parameters we should give drop down for ex:

(Please see attached img bir.jpg)

it should display only drop down with categories values ...

(Please see attached img birt.jpg)

it should display only drop down with location values ...

>so after selecting product in radiobutton(first level grouping) we should select category or location or both (second level grouping)...

if i select product in radiobutton(first level grouping) and only category(second level grouping) we should get the output like ....

<del class='bbc'>grp 1:</del> product
<del class='bbc'>grp2 :</del> category

Column1 Column 2 Column 3 Column 4
DETAIL ROW DETAIL ROW DETAIL ROW DETAIL ROW

<del class='bbc'>grp 1:</del> product
<del class='bbc'>grp2 :</del> category

Column1 Column 2 Column 3 Column 4
DETAIL ROW DETAIL ROW DETAIL ROW DETAIL ROW

<del class='bbc'>grp 1:</del> product
<del class='bbc'>grp2 :</del> category

Column1 Column 2 Column 3 Column 4
DETAIL ROW DETAIL ROW DETAIL ROW DETAIL ROW

if i select product in radiobutton(first level grouping) and only location(second level grouping) we should get the output like ....

<del class='bbc'>grp 1:</del> product
<del class='bbc'>grp2 :</del> location

Column1 Column 2 Column 3 Column 4
DETAIL ROW DETAIL ROW DETAIL ROW DETAIL ROW

if i select product in radiobutton(first level grouping) and both location and category (second level grouping) we should get the output like ....

<del class='bbc'>grp 1:</del> product
<del class='bbc'>grp2 :</del> category
<del class='bbc'>grp 3 :</del> location

Column1 Column 2 Column 3 Column 4
DETAIL ROW DETAIL ROW DETAIL ROW DETAIL ROW

So ultimately the output should get generated for dynamic values(product,location,category) given by user and group based on it....

please help me out how to acheive it as soon as possible

Thanks in advance
Hi arjunmanju,

Your story wasnt that clear but the ghist of it is you want conditional grouping. You can do this quite simple in any complexity you want by doing the following:

When making a group you can select in Group on a data row from your table. However you can also select for script option.

Here you could do something like this:

if (params["PARM1"].value == 'X'){
0;
}else {
row["COL1"]
}

You can do this with all the groups. Disabling them (by setting them to 0 meaning all for that group will be the same value and thus not sorted.

The biggest problem I cant tell you will be dynamically changing the sorting direction of the Group I'm afraid I never attempted it nor do I know if you can actually change on runtime the group sorting direction of a table group maybe someone of the more experienced people (or the folks from Actuate) out here can tell you that.

Hi mcremer/all,
Thank you for your suggestion, But its possible to select any one grouping at a time, But my requirement is it should group for multilevel, where we can select from parameter as
group by {} Product,category,location
or
group by {} Product,location
or
group by {} Product
i.e ..i should pass multiple values to a table and it should group based on whatever values i pass,
so my report should work in all the above conditions and group by {} value can be anything...(from sql select statement)
So its a multi-level grouping i needed actually..Please suggest me is it possible and if so then how to achieve it ....reply soon as possible
thank you all in advance

ajren
Pass Boolean for all of the grouping elements to decide to group based on your values. Use that boolean values to set the grouping.

Hi ajren/all,
Can u please give a brief about your solution or any example rptdesign file if u have
Thanks in Advance,
