Drop Down box parameters

Hey all, 
I've created a report that allows a user to display all Orders in our eCommerce system that fall within a specified date range. When being asked to supply the parameters for the report, they also are asked to choose an order status from a drop-down box that is populated by another data set. I use the order status id as the drop-down value, and the displayed value, or label, for the drop-down is the order status name. All this looks good and appears to work well; the drop-down does contain the correct labels and ids. However, when choosing any option other than the already-selected one, BIRT somehow receives a null value. The log is below:

I don't see an issue with the setup at first glance. It would help if I could run the report and see the data though. Is there any way you can reproduce this with the sample database? Or does this only happen with this report?

Umm, I'm not sure if it's reproducible in that respect. Do you have a link to/for the database you're talking about and I can try to reproduce it with that? Also, using the RCP (stand-alone) version of BIRT designer, do you know how to enable logging such that I could see the SQL being generated and used to query the database?

The sample database is a standard feature of BIRT. If you go to make a new dataSource, there is a classic models database that you can make sample reports off of to help with working through issues. This way we have a common database to make reports out of to share.

Okay, so I got pulled aside to tackle some higher priority issues at work, but now I'm back on the report horse. So, I'm back looking at the issues I had put in, and part of that was moving my problems to a report that uses the BIRT sample database so that others can replicate what I'm seeing and experiencing. 
 
So, with all of that said, I created a test report using the sample database. With this report, I want to pull a list of products from the ClassicCars database. Easy enough, so I added a small twist: the list of products can now be filtered based on ProductLine. So, I created another data source, set up a drop-down box parameter that pulls from that ProductLine data source. 
 
I want this parameter to be optional; that is, they can select from the drop-down or choose a null value. I know that this means I will have write a small bit of ode in the beforeOpen script, which I've done as follows:

If I could get some assistance with these issues I've outlined above, I would be very appreciative. Then once I can get this working, I should be able to apply the same lessons learned to my production reports and get them working. Thanks to all for your help.
