Generating ID;s at DCT level

HI,
I am fairly new to Teamsite....
Is it possible to generate ID's for certain elements in my DCT? or it can only be handled at TPL level? and how can it be done there?
Should i have to read the Whole XML (mine is arbitrary XML)file via DCRParser or DCRNode and append ID's to node elements there?
Is there any simpler way out to achieve this?

Not certain exacly what you are looking for, so you may want to post an example, however with FormAPI and the CGI callouts, you can do a great deal within the DCT.

This is the required xml(DCR) with Id's (like section id="1") etc.
Now what I want to know is how do i generate the above output (i mean XML with the Id's)?
I am able to generate the above arbitrary xml perfectly fine. Now i need to inser the Id's.

Take a look at

$iw-home//examples/Templating/templatedata/userscript/location

That has a CGI that sound similar to what you are doing. Also read the TS templating manual about callouts.

What you are looking for is pretty common. It is not be rocket science.
