Using a Versionning Control System

Hi all,
I am currently working with BIRT in a project that involve several people to work in collaboration.
We put in place an SVN repository to store all versions of a report/library and to facilitate the merging process of modifications done by two users in the same file.
Unfortunately we are encountering issues when merging modifications (update) with IDs and Names:
When a Report Item is created in a library, each of the elements composing the Report Item receive an ID. This ID is auto incremented and managed by the Report Designer.
So when two people create a new Report Item in the same library and try to commit (for the first one and update and commit for the second one), they get a lot of error messages due to duplicated IDs and Names.
Have you already experienced this problem? Do you have a workaround?
I am sure that we can avoid this problem by using locks but this is definitely not the approach we would like to have.
Thank you,
Sebastien

You really don't want to have two people edit a report just for that reason. ID's are assigned incrementally. If two people are working on the same report at the same time, there will be overlap of those ID numbers. I usually tell my clients to lock the report to prevent that from happening.
