Facing problem in XMLReportEmitter java class in the package:org.eclipse.birt.report.engine.emitter.xml with undefined methods namely: 
1)isPropertyRequired(XMLTags.rPropList, rp) 
2)getReportPropValue(i,report) 
3)replaceTag( rp, "??"+XMLTags.rPropList, propValue ) 
 
We need to know the definition of each of these methods.

This plug-in is related to XML. 
 
I did not download any plug-ins from BIRT Exchange.We are developing this plug-in on our own. 
 
The definition of these methods are not known to us. 
 
I would be very grateful if you could help us out with this.

Please could you let me know how we go about executing this code - XML plug-in emitter, as I am new to this I do not know how to initiate the execution process. To get a reference of the flow of execution I have included System.out.println statements in each class of XML code. Could you guide me on how to execute this and see the output.

Depending on the emitter type you are developing, and the class that you are extending, you are looking at two different methodologies. One is the pixel perfect method. For your XML emitter, it is not relevant.

The SAX type emitter will execute pretty much just like a SAX parser will operate. There are Start/End methods for each report item type, starting from the report, down to the body, and each report item. The execution flow goes something like:

initialize (gets called with the context and emitter options)
start (contains report)
startBody
startMasterPage
startContainer (this will get called regardless of the container type, table/grid/etc).
startTable
startRow
startCell
startData/startLabel
startText
endText
endData/endLabel
endCell
endRow
endTable
endContainer
endMasterPage
endBody
end

Once you have written your emitter code, open the plugin.xml file. On the Overview tab, scroll down to the right and click on Run Eclipse. This will start a seperate instance of Eclipse with your plugin. this seperate instance will have its own workspace, so be sure to copy any test reports into it. Then, go up to Run Report and select your output format.

When you are done developing, use the Export wizard in the dialog that pops up for the plugin.xml. And in some cases, there may be options that are missing if you are not in the Plugin-Development perspective.

Yes!!! I have followed all the steps which you mention in the above article and while running(testing) the sample reportit shows the options XML and its successfully running in the web-viewer while trying to export the report via XML it throws exception like org.eclipse.birt.report.service.api.ReportServiceException: Report engine fails to initialize XML emitter, please make sure required libraries for this emitter are installed.
I'm using---> Eclipse IDE for Java and Report Developers --- Version: Kepler Release How to convert this plug-in project into runnable jar and where to deploy in BIRT engine(i.e. folders)
