Recursing groups for sharing

Okay, TS 5.5.2 no SP. Win2k.

The other day I tried creating a workarea with a global group as the group for sharing. I then tried to nest another global group within that group to give our web developers access to that group. So what I has was:

Workarea shared with domain\gfsgroup
and then
domain\webdevelopers as a member of domain\gfsfroup

While this works within NT, TeamSite does not recognize the accounts in the webdevelopers group as having permissions in that workarea. Is TS able to recurse these groups? Is there a way around this?

Also related, we would like to share a workflow in available_templates with this webdeveloper group, but adding a user element to the AT.cfg file that includes the domain\webdevelopers group does not work. TS will not recognize this group.

What are other people doing to get around this? Am I missing something basic?
