Secure read of xml data source over http

I have a BIRT report design with xml data source, which is read over http from our resource servlet.<br />
<strong class='bbc'>Can be the connection to the xml resource secured over https?</strong><br />

I could not find anytnihg positives in the documentation or in the forum.<br />
But I found negative answers from the year 2008.<br />
Is it possibly now in the newest BIRT version?<br />
<br />
We use Eclipse BIRT 2.6 together with the bundled BIRT Viewer now, but we can migrate to the newest version.<br />
