Hi Linda,

the component that renders a report to XLS doesn't support images. That means that you have no chance to have images in XLS using the default excel output component.
That's why there are a lot of other third party components that can be used instead of the one shipped out with BIRT. A lot of them are supporting images.
The most popular one is the one from Tribix (just google for Tribix BIRT Excel Emitter). There are some other excel emitters as well in the dev share. You might choose one depending on your requirements (they all have their pros and cons).
