<TIMEOUT> in workflow
System
Can we timeout a single approver in a workflow grouptask? My case is there are several approvers and we want to bypass one or two approvers after a timeout and keep 2-3 approvers as mandatory. Is it possible?

If I'm reading this correctly, you have a grouptask with say 5 approvers in the group and if that grouptask times out, you want to proceed to a 3 user group of people to approve? You can accomplish this by setting up another grouptask with only that subset of 3 people (a separate defined group) as your successor to the timeout of the initial grouptask. Or you could have 3 individual usertasks as the successors to your timeout.

In my case, the entire grouptask will not timeout. Only one or two approvers who are "Optional" they timeout. And I have to bypass them to proceed further to submission.

That does not sound possible using a grouptask. You might be able to create that scenario by using usertasks for each individual in the group and place a timeout in the usertasks that belong to the "optional" approvers. Then the task(s) that will be executed as a successor to all the usertasks will only execute if all the mandatory approvers approve. It's messy and you have to hardcode the owners of those usertasks, which could be a pain to maintain in the future, but I think you can accomplish what you want, just not with a grouptask.

So concurrent Approval is not possible? I've to use a serial approval for this workflow.Right?

if your saying that you want 5 approvers and they are all required, except 2 of them will timeout to approved, then you should be able to set a successor to 5 review tasks with 2 of them timeout options and all 5 review tasks being <and> activations, if any review is disapproved then reset all.

I believe the way you describe it sounds like you need serial approval by your mandatory approvers. I'm not entirely sure how your optional approvers fit in - you may have to add some concurrancy in, you may not. Depends on what you require of those optional people. You probably need to inactivate the optionsl usertasks (at the very least) in your ultimate successor task(s) as well.

If 2 of the approvers are optional, you shouldn't <and> them into the activation of the successor task. That makes them mandatory as well.

I'm a bit confused by your question - perhaps we can clarify things a bit?
Can we timeout a single approver in a workflow grouptask? My case is there are several approvers and we want to bypass one or two approvers after a timeout and keep 2-3 approvers as mandatory. Is it possible?
Are you talking about
one grouptask
with several owners? (possible only in a serial flow where each person would take ownership of the task as it was iterated through), or
multiple grouptasks
in which you want them to generally timeout and proceed, but not proceed if a minimum number of them have not been truly transitioned?
In my case, the entire grouptask will not timeout. Only one or two approvers who are "Optional" they timeout. And I have to bypass them to proceed further to submission.
Again, what do you mean by
entire grouptask
? A grouptask is a single task with a single owner at any one time - not a single task with multiple owners operating on it concurrently.
Please try to provide a use-case scenario to help explain what you are trying to accomplish. If we can understand that, we might be able to help you figure out how to do it.
Example: 3 reviews setup concurrently, each review is assigned to a different group of potential reviewers (GA, GB, GC), each review has a timeout of 24 hours. If two of the tasks are transitioned as approvals, ignore the 3rd and proceed. If any task is transitioned as a rejection, ignore the other two and go back to the original content contributor. If a task timesout - send notification to someone, and loop back and put it back out for grabs.
Maybe the above is what you're asking, maybe not - the more clearly you can describe what you're attempting to accomplish the better chance that someone here can assist you in so doing.

I want to send "Review Notification" to say 5 Approvers at the same time. I want 3 of them as mandatory approvers to proceed to the next task and 2 are "Optional". I want to continue to the next task if the "Optional " Approvers timeout. I'm only concerned with the Approval of mandatory approvers and optional approvers if they approve before they timeout.

I think you have misinterpreted the purpose of a group task. A group task is a task that can be performed by any
one
person within a group, not a task to be performed by all of the members of a group. I think what you want are 5 concurrent user tasks, where two of them have timeouts.

... and, to follow-up on Brinko's response, ... You will want to clearly designate during instantiation (or possibly through a cgitask) *which* are the mandatory reviewers and which are the optional reviewers.
Based on that information, and correct configuration of the 'activation' element for the tasks following the review, you should be able to accomplish what you are describing - at least as we understand your description.
