You don't want the text to wrap? You want the column width to expand to fit the text? Let me know.

I want the text to wrap. Currently what is happening is if there is a space, then it is coming to the next line, but if there is a word without space then its not wrapping it. for ex if i have something like(askjfkajsdfkjaskfjaksjdfkjasdfkjaskdf) that i have highlighted in my attachement, the rest all followed is not shown in the report.
Please help.

I see what you're saying now. You'll probably have to determine the number of characters in the text, find out how many characters will fit on a row, and then insert break characters where needed to cause the break. Or you could use substrings to separate the long text.

such a long process just to display the values in a column. Is there any setting that I can set so that the columns will expand as per the data. Here the data is dynamic and i cant assume and do the calculation. Please help as it is important for a reporting tool to display the data as it is to the user.

If you use the auto layout, rather than the fixed layout, this should happen for you.

Hi

I have used auto layout, but when i output the result in pdf , the columns are truncated. Its not displaying the entire value.

Please help! There should be an alternative to this, I c BIRT as a very intelligent tool, and displaying the column values without truncating is a basic option.
For PDF, you're working with a fixed size. Is there room to make other columns smaller while expanding the one you want to expand? If not, you'll have to use a bigger page size to get the space if you want it to stay on one line. Inserting a break character seems that it would be your best option if allowing the single "word" to wrap.

Also please let me know how can i increase the page size.

To increase the page size, you'd go to the masterpage tab under the design window and change the size to custom in the property editor and enter your own dimensions. Simply switching to landscape might help instead. If you'd still like an example of inserting a break character into a long unbroken text, let me know your BIRT version.

HI Williams

Yes we need an example on how we can insert a break character into a long unbroken text. BIRT version is 3.7.1.
Take a look at the attached example. I did the insert of break characters in a dynamic textbox. This could be done in a computed column to avoid script in the design.
