Dynamic Master Page to solve duplex print issue?
mzeevalk
We have a report that is generated directly to PDF via URL that is run once a year and produces thousands of pages for numerous groups. The client would prefer to print the PDF dual sided to conserve paper, but since there is no set number of pages per group we are having issues when a single group has an odd number of pages and the first page of the next group prints on the back side. The start of each group needs to start on the front page. Is there a way to dynamically include a blank master page when the last page number in a group is odd and is a front page? Pseudo code would be:
if (pagenumber is odd && last page is on the front page) {
use Blank Master Page so an additional page is printed at the end of the group
} else {
no master page
)

I've done an example before for this same issue where you check the page number at the end of the group and use page breaks to insert a blank page, but I cannot find it. What is your BIRT version? I'll try to make an example.

We are on BIRT 3.7.1. An example would be a huge help as this issue is giving me a lot of grief. Thanks...

Michael,
Were you able to get an example working to demonstrate this?
Thanks...

Sorry for the delay. Take a look at this example. It's a very simple example showing a label in the group footer that has script to add a page break before it if it's on an odd page. The label then goes to the next page and at the end of the group, another page break is done, leaving you with a blank page. There is still the group and table header information printed on the blank page, so there's still some work to do, but this should get you started. Let me know if you have questions!

<p>Michael, Thanks for the example, however, I am having the hardest time figuring out how to keep my header from printing on the blank pages but still print on pages that have detail lines. Any thoughts on how I would go about doing that?</p>
