Whitespaces are ignored
dalepraneeth
we need to generate a report while reading individual lines from a text file.

some text files might contain whitespaces in beginning of the line.

But Birt is ignoring the whitespace and starting from the first character it encounters.

please help me with a solution.

thanks in advance.

Can you create a report and a simple text file that will show what you're doing that I can run?

I will try to upload the documents, mean while i will explain what we were doing here.
We were reading a text file and each line is one data row . Well some rows contain whitespaces in the beginning of the row. But birt is just ignoring those spaces which looks like the text moves forward in pdf document when we generate the report.

So, is there anything that makes birt consider those whitespaces in the beginning of the line ??

How are you reading in the text file? With the flat file dataSource or with a scripted dataSource?

The solution for this problem is goto:
properties-> Format string -> Preserve white spaces : string with leading white spaces

Great! Thanks for the update!

Topic is old know but i am stuck with the same Problem using an Excel Data Source and cant find the property Setup as mentioned before. What Properties i have to Change? From Data Source or Data Set? In my case it is the row in the Excel data on which i want to use a join on. So Birt compares the Excel data source with one from Oracle DB. in Oracle the whitespace is not ignored and in Excel it is.. Means i cannot join correctly the datasets.
