There's not a drawing tool of any sort that I know of, but there are grids. What are you trying to do?

We have done reports in actuate which is a paid version. So, we are now trying to migrate all the reports to birt which is open source.

While doing we observed some features are not there in birt when compared to actuate.

Earlier in Actuate we used to merge text from a text file into a report, so what we do is read one line into one dataset row. And so whenever we were required to show boxes we used rectangel tool which is overlaps on other labels (this feature is not there in birt, and again we cannot overlap labels or whatever like in actuate) which makes users look it as if was table.

i suppose you can understand my situation here.

And i have another doubt:
is there anything like : text in first cell continues or overflows to next cell in the same row ???

Any way you can show a screenshot of a report with a "box" in it? I'm not familiar with the old Actuate stuff, so I'm not sure if anything can be done like this.
As for your second question, if you can merge the cells in the design, there is the option to do that. You also might be able to use the column span property in this case.
