Dropdown to change values in table/chart
cbuckler
Hi,
I am trying to use a dropdown (parameters cannot be used in this report) to filter the values in my tables and charts. I would appreciate any insight.
Thanks.

You can't use a parameter at all? Or you can't use the parameter screen?

We cannot use the parameter screen. To the best of my knowledge, it still successfully utilizes parameters in the report, just with values unknown to us. Much to our chagrin, this is a fundamental limitation in the presentation layer applied overtop the BIRT reports in our system.

You can create a HTML list box in a text box and then pass the value selected through a hidden parameter in a URL to re-run the report. You'd just need to write a function to re-run your report in the text box using script tags and call that function from your list box when a value is selected.
Let me know if you need further explanation!

How do you pass a value through a hidden parameter? And how do you rerun the report without refresh the whole page? Thanks for the help!

If you do the HTML list box inside the report design, you'll have to re-run the entire report. If you make a report parameter hidden, by selecting the check box for it in the parameter wizard, the parameter page will not show, but you can still pass a value to that parameter.

How do you pass that value to the hidden parameter?

Through the URL when calling the report with your javascript function.
