Birt Viewer 3.7.1 Unable to determine the default workspace location

Hello Experts, 
 
I have Birt Viewer deployed in tomcat on Linux box. 
I am attempting to upgrade to Birt Runtime 3.7.1 mainly because it fills up the PermGen slower than previous versions. 
 
I have set org.eclipse.datatools_workspacepath as per the migration guide. 
 
In my catalina.sh, I have

And it's being added to JAVA_OPTS

The directory workspace_dtp gets created at the time of Tomcat startup (if not already existing). 
(Also, another directory gets created in same temp folder named workspace_some_random_chars eg: workspace_5e7fd26b-b811-49cc-a9bb-ec202926339a - not sure if it is being created by BirtViewer) 
 
 
I provide the relative path of .rptdesign file eg:

My reports are using connection profile data source, but upon running any report I get the following error.

The same report works on windows PC with analogous settings in catalina.bat 
 
PS: This could be related to <a class='bbc_url' href='https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=363422'>Bug 363422</a>, but that's marked RESOLVED WORKSFORME by Linda. 
 
Please advise what am I doing wrong.

Hi Sebastian,

Thanks for the configuration info.

I am adding some more logging in the implementation to collect additional debugging info. It also has an interim workaround to skip the encoding step if an exception occurs.
I will update Bug 363422 with the patch details, when the build is ready... stay tuned there.

Thanks for the quick patch.. 
 
The reports are working now, though it gave an warning/stackTrace in the log (log copied in the <a class='bbc_url' href='https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=363422'>Bug 363422</a>) when running a report for the first time, but even that first time, the report did open without any problem. 
 
Also, the message was not printed when same (or any other) report was accessed again. 
 
A directory 
 
/usr/share/apache-tomcat-7.0.23/temp/workspace_dtp/org.eclipse.datatools.connectivity 
 
was auto-created containing 
 
driverManagerPreferences.xml 
driverStorage.xml 
ServerProfiles.bak 
ServerProfiles.dat 

 
 
So using the BIRT Runtime 3.7.2_RC1 with org.eclipse.datatools.connectivity_1.2.4.v201201260252.jar, the reports are working fine in the WebViewerExample (using connection profile data source)
