Doubt about queries, parameters and datasets

Hello again!

Currently I have a set of reports which dataset I pass through report parameters because the query to get them varies depending on a set of options (that could be set or not). Since I'm trying to optimize the reports, I'm wondering if there is a way to pass a set of values to a sql query defined in a dataset (as in for example 'WHERE columnName IN ( ? )', where ? is the set of values). Also, is there any other way to define a dinamic dataset without using an scripted dataset/datasource? For example, I was thinking about using a java class to get the dataset inside the BIRT report but I'm not sure how to set that data to a previously defined dataset in BIRT, nor where should I dod that inside the BIRT report.

Any suggestions?

I'm finding it very useful (in v3.7.1).
