You can get the password from the underlying volumes database. Contact Actuate Support and they will walk you through how to do it.
If your not seeing the volume, you don't have the correct URL or user/pass combination.

Hi Jack S,
I assume you are using iServer plugin in BRD Pro. Passwords are typically encrypted, so finding the file that stores this information will not serve your purpose. I would recommend you to get in touch with administrator to create an account for you. You could also try the default username 'Administrator' with no password if the administrator has not changed anything. Make sure the iServer service is up and running before you try to configure the plugin otherwise your volume will remain empty.

You can try restarting the service from windows service manager. You cant do much without the login credentials.

Hi Jack S,
BIRT iServer uses PostgreSQL server for storing the encyclopedia meta data information and for some reason PostgreSQL server does not like being run as an administrator and that explains the message during installation. I would recommend you to create a seperate user that only has power user role and use this user to install. Also make sure the prior setup is uninstalled before you attempt again.

I understand your frustration, this is really a windows 2003 limitation. PostgreSQL refuses to run as an admin account. It does that to reduce the potential for a hacker who gains access to the PostgreSQL database from using PostgreSQL to attack the host system. In versions 8.2 and up, PostgreSQL will automatically revoke the admin privileges when it is run using an admin account. The bug in Windows Server 2003 makes it impossible for a process to revoke admin privileges; PostgreSQL detects this and halts. Windows Server 2003 is the only Windows version which has that bug.
