VisualFormat: Want highlight in toolbar for custom

When text which uses standard VisualFormat commands (e.g. "Header1") is selected, the command is highlighted in the toolbar. However, when I create custom commands, the custom button or drop down menu is not highlighted. Even though the custom command has been used on the selected text. How can I get my custom command highlighted in the toolbar?

I am using TeamSite 5.5.2 with the latest service packs. (Solaris)
