Modify chart components without reloading web viewer.
SteveFast
Hi guys,
This situation takes place on BIRT web viewer.
My report has a line chart and a button defined in html tag as a text element.
I want to toggle visibility of series on a line chart by using the button.
Can I do that without reload of browser after hit the button?
Which means only onClick event of the button is able to modify chart properties on client side.
Thank you.

If it's just a single series that you want to hide, you could probably just make duplicate charts, one with the series hidden and then toggle the visibility of the charts onClick of the button.

Hi all,
There are many series on a line chart. And users can toggle visibility of each charts as desire.
What I really wonder is can we have a function like "re-render" chart. So that we can do this feels like
no-refresh web viewer.
If you guys have other ideas, please share :-)
Thank you.

If you use SVG charts, they come with a feature for toggling series visibility. The Actuate BIRT product line has a JSAPI that might be able to handle this. You can download a 45 day trial and play around with it.

Hi,
I use the latest version of standard BIRT.
How can i know my line chart is SVG?
It should be SVG chart by default.
Thank you.

Hi all,
Does birt have a line of code to re-render a chart?
So that we can have real interactive chart feeling without refresh a page.
For example, we like to control any chart component on run-time using html button.
Of course, our charts and html elements like button are on the same page.
Thank you.

Make sure you have "Enable SVG Charts" selected under your preferences, to be able to see them from the designer preview. You can find this under report design -> preview in the preferences.

Thank you, mwilliams.
It works!!
But one more issue here.
Once you enable SVG and also enable "show tooltip", there will be 2 tooltips displayed.
I believe one is from SVG render and the other from OS(it's smaller).
How can I display only one of them?
