BIRT 3.7 : OVERFLOW :HIDDEN. What does it do ???

There is an option in Properties -> Advance -> Overflow:hidden

What does this option actually do ??

I have a requirement that is i need to make text overflow from first cell in a grid into next cell.

This is working in html view but NOT PDF view.

Did you comment in the bug report for this? Any way you can create a simple sample report that I can run and see your issue? Maybe we can come up with a workaround to use for now.

what does overflow actually do?

Overflow is the CSS property that defines how the inner content is rendered of an element when it is too large to fit with the container by default.
 
For example, you have a data element that is linked to a comments column in your data set and it's overflow is set to hidden. If the comments String that is pulled in is too much text for the defined bounds of the element then it will clip the text that does not fit and not display it.
