I'm using BIRT (newest release) since one week now

I have a question which I couldn't answer with help of the Wiki. 
 
I've got a Database with several searchterms and the used Language. 
My query: 
 
<pre class='_prettyXprint _lang-auto _linenums:0'>SELECT statistic_search.LANGUAGE, COUNT(statistic_search.LANGUAGE) AS ANZAHL FROM statistic_search GROUP BY statistic_search.LANGUAGE ORDER BY Anzahl DESC</pre>
 
The Result is:

How could I use a property file for the ResultSet (not for the Label, thats easy)? 
 
It should look like:

what do you want to translate?
The content of the column Sprache?

There are two different approaches:
1) You add another table that contains the translation of the language name for different languages like

Sprache translation locale
deutsch deutsch de
deutsch german en
deutsch allemagne fr

Then you can easily join the correct translation to your dataset. To get the current language of the report just use reportContext.getLocale(). This returns a java.util.Locale that you can easily use to say
WHERE locale=? (set parameter ? to value of reportContext.getLocale().getDisplayLanguage()

2) Add .properties files and keep translated language names for each language in a different properties file. add a dynamic text having value reportContext.getMessage("key", reportContext.getLocale())
substitute key by the correct key that identifies the language you want to translate.

The table "Sprache" was just a simple example to show what I want. 
I have lots of tables and complicate queries. 
 
Because of that, it makes no sense to create tables with all possible translations and alter all request queries. 
 
In the first step, I don't want to translate to the request language. The translation should always be german. 
 
If I understand right, your second proposal could do, what I want. 
 
My Table Configuration looks like:

Sprache | Anzahl
[LANGUAGE] | [ANZAHL]
</pre>
 
I added the dynamic text instead of [LANGUAGE] with the following content: 
 
<pre class='_prettyXprint _lang-auto _linenums:0'>reportContext.getMessage(row["LANGUAGE"], "de")</pre>
 
But the properties file is not requested, and the column empty. 
 
For the label "Sprache" there is the possibility to choose a property file, but not for the value of the column. 
 
The reporting.properties/reporting_de.properties files are located under /src/main/resources/ . 
How could I connect em to my table?

the second parameter has to be of type java.util.locale. 
try to change it to

var locale = Packages.java.util.Locale.GERMAN;
reportContext.getMessage(row["LANGUAGE"], locale)

Your code will not work because method reportContext.getMessage(String, String) doesn't exist

Unfortunately there is another problem. 
 
Within the preview function on Eclipse, the property file is read. But if I deploy the webapp and run it (Windows / Liferay Portal 5.2.3 / Tomcat 6.0.18) the file is not read. 
 
I put it nearly everywhere 
root/WEB-INF/classes/ 
reporting/WEB-INF/classes 
reporting/WEB-INF 
... 
 
I changed in web.xml the param 
<pre class='_prettyXprint _lang-auto _linenums:0'>
<context-param>
<param-name>BIRT_RESOURCE_PATH</param-name>
<param-value>\WEB-INF\</param-value>
</context-param>
</pre>
 
I also tried different possibilities with/without (back)slashes and absolute path like C:\Temp\ 
 
Where is my mistake? 
 
EDIT: 
If I extend the WEB-INF/viewer.properties file the params were not found too.

P.S.

Solution is to add some lines into the xml definition of the design file:

<simple-property-list name="includeResource">
<value>WEB-INF/classes/reporting</value>
</simple-property-list>
</pre>
 
where "reporting" is the filename of the property file.

Are you using the BIRt Web-Viewer to generate the reports on the server? the context parameters only work with the BIRt Webviewer. If you are not using the webviewer you have to set the resource path using the API (there should be a method called setResourcePath(String path) on the engine object. If you do not provide a value it looks for all the properties files in the same directory the report is coming from.

If you are using the Webviewer you have to use single slashes. The directory has to be relativ to the Webcontent directory. So if you want to set it to WEB-INF/classes provide
WEB-INF/classes as value for the context param.

P.S.

I use the WebViewer.
The problem was, that I missed to add the file name in addition to WEB-INF/classes/

"WEB-INF/classes" don't works, but "WEB-INF/classes/reporting" works, because the file is called reporting.properties.

The main problem was to find, where to add this option. Because it's not possible to add this option with the help of the report designer.
