Puzzling dropdown list behavior in IDE
Orthoducks
I'm trying to learn BIRT, and I'm have a difficult time because the user interface doesn't behave in the ways I expect. I hope someone can help me understand what is happening.
My immediate problem is dropdown lists. I don't know how to describe the behavior I observe in general terms, but here's a specific example.
I want to change a style's font. I display the Outline view, open the Styles item, right-click the style, and select Edit Style. BIRT opens the Edit Style dialog.
I select the Font panel.
I click the down-arrow at the end of the Font field, opening the Font dropdown.
Then things get strange.
I click the dropdown list's scroll bar, expecting it to scroll down one list display at a time. Nothing happens.
I drag the scroll tab down. This scrolls the list normally. The up and down arrows also work normally.
I get the font I want in the display and move the mouse to the left, intending to click the font. As soon as the mouse moves from the scroll bar to the font list, the list starts scrolling down. When I stop moving the mouse, the scrolling stops. When I start moving it again, the scrolling resumes. No matter what direction I move the mouse, the list scrolls down.
I can make selections from dropdown lists by typing, effectively using the list as an auto-complete field, but mouse selection seems impossible to use.
The system in Windows 7; BIRT is, running on Eclipse 3.1.0. "Feature details" lists dozens of entries for BIRT, but most of them say version 2.0.1.

I have Windows 7, as well. I opened my version of BIRT 2.0.1, which is on Eclipse 3.1. I opened the font editor and selected the font drop down and everything worked as expected. Not sure what would cause this issue for you. Did you try re-starting Eclipse? If that didn't work, try re-downloading BIRT? I just don't see the same issue.
