Problem with hiding rows using Javascript

I have a report that was modified from the DevShare example Hide Row Client Side (http://www.birt-exchange.org/org/devshare/designing-birt-reports/1125-hide-row-client-side/). However, I discovered that my report and the original example does not want work in Firefox 9.0.1 or 10.0.2. The button returns error "hiderow is not defined" when clicked.

I tested on the following browsers:
IE 8.0.6001.18702 (works)
IE 9.0.8112.16421 (works)
FF 3.6.27 (works)
FF 9.0.1 (hiderow is not defined)
FF 10.0.2 (hiderow is not defined)

I also ran this report in FF 7.x before and it worked. I don't have a computer with FF 7.x to test again.

I tried moving the position of the script code to different locations in the report but it still returns with the error. Is there another way to define the function so it works in these browser versions?

i suggest to install the firefox extension firebug. It looks like the javascript part doesn't valdiate in newer versions of Firefox. Inspecting the html output of the birt report using firebug will surely reveal the problem.
To be honest javascript is a real pain in the ****. Most javascript code that is available out there is not 100% correct, or works in all browsers. The javascript compiler used by different browser is a work in progress, so if it works in one browser it doesn't necessarily work in the other browser or even in a newer version of the same browser.
I agree with you that it is the only option if you want the report to be dynamic on the client side, but my opinion is that it's ending up in a maintainence nightmare if you add complex client side javascript to your report.

If i have time i ll look into the sample using firebug.

i downloaded the sample, opened the html using Firefox 10.0.2 and it worked.
Can you try the original report to see if it works for you? (it's hard to say if the issue is in your report or in the javascript itself...at the moment it looks like it's an issue in your report)

I tested 3 different ways in FF 9.0.1. Both from the Eclipse Birt Report Viewer.

1. Right click->Properties, copy/paste Address property into browser address bar. This opens Birt Viewer in browser window. I get same "hiderow is not defined" as before.

2. Click Print Report, select HTML format, click OK. Copy/paste Address property into browser as in test 1. This opens just the HTML output. This works.

3. From the print window in test 2. Right Click->View Source, copy/paste html into a file and save. Open file in browser, works fine.

Also tested my deployed report. The hide button does not work in the viewer, but does work if I print report to HTML.

The Birt Viewer and Firefox together appear to be the issue.

I also created and attached a completely stripped down report that also has this issue. 
 
I'll ask for approval to send my report if you really it.
