Take a look at this report. It uses persistentGlobalVariables to store the totals for each category value and then change the label value to show the new value. Series labels are only turned on for the top bar. Hope this helps. This report was designed in BIRT 3.7.2.

Note: There seems to be an issue using this in the web viewer with frameset (the value is doubled), but it works with run. So, there is a little tweaking to do if you're using the viewer frameset.

If you just use GlobalVariables rather than PersistentGlobalVariables, it works correctly with frameset.
