Dynamic growing and shrinking crosstab( drill down and drill up)

Hi Birt Experts, 
 
I am new to BIRT and have got stuck in a problem. I hope some can help me out on this. 
I have a cross tab which is grouped on the year and shows population continent wise 
 
When I click on Asia, it should spilt country wise, splitting asia column to countries 
Please refer to the attached image.

Is this feature for such drill down supported in BIRT. Please help me . Your help much appreciated

this kind of drill down is not possible using BIRTs out of the box features. It would require a lot of scripting to have that kind of behaviour but again it wouldn't be as cool as the drill down known from analysis tools like JPivot or JRubik.

Thanks for the reply. 
I was trying to script around the crossTab handler instance and it did not give me any functions to add or delete a column in the cross tab. Can you please let me know the API location for crosstabs

Hi,

you can not add rows to the crosstab by using the event handler functions. The only thing you can do is to modify existing rows. the event handler function are only related to report generation so you can not have user interaction or listen to user events like: User clicked on element or something like this.

If you would like to have such kind of functionality you have to create the crosstab on the fly using the design engine API.
The idea is to have a hyperlink on the different levels that execute the same report once again with different set of parameters. You can then read the parameters in the beforeFactory event of the report and build the crosstab dynamically depending on the parameter values.
I would not say that it is impossible but it is quite hard.

Would Data Analyzer in commercial BIRT version help anything in this regard
