modified files

All,
I am a little confused as to what TeamSite is considering a modified file. We are running an external task in workflow that is setting metadata and extended attributes on a file. When the workflow finishes, it is showing the correct system time, modified by SYSTEM (W2K platform), but there is no pencil all the file showing it should be submitted to STAGING. I can't understand how this happens? We wrote a lot of metadata to the file and extended attributes....

Any help would be well received.

Does the workflow submit the files to staging? If so, that would explain why they don't show up as modified in the workarea.

Yes and no. The workflow submits a file to STAGING, but thw workflow also set extended attributes on a file not attached to the workflow. When I go and look at the file, it is modified, but no pencil is showing up on the file.

This does not seem to be a problem on our production boxes (TeamSite 5.5.2 - Windows 2000 Server), only on our development server (TeamSite 5.5.2 - Win NT 4.0)

Any ideas???
