JavaScript error

Hi guys, 
I start a new topic with this error. Because I think maybe the solution could useful for someone. 
 
I use this script:

Wert = Spalten;
Wert = Wert.substring(1, Wert.length - 1).split(",");
Wert.length = 10;

Wert[i] = "SP" + Wert[i] + " as ZE" + (i + 1);
} else {
Wert[i] = "ZE999 as SP" + (i + 1);

If I run this script in a browser or within this online tool: <a class='bbc_url' href='http://pjunk.de/webtools/onlinejs.html'>http://pjunk.de/webtools/onlinejs.html</a> 
then I get this string: <blockquote class='ipsBlockquote' >SP1 as ZE1,SP5 as ZE2,SP52 as ZE3,SP58 as ZE4,ZE999 as SP5,ZE999 as SP6,ZE999 as SP7,ZE999 as SP8,ZE999 as SP9,ZE999 as SP10</blockquote>
 
But when I use this sript in Birt on beforeFacotry or beforeOpen or Data Field I always get this error: 
<blockquote class='ipsBlockquote' >Cannot convert NaN to java.lang.Integer (/report/method[@name="initialize"]#38) (Element ID:1)</blockquote>
#38 = <pre class='_prettyXprint _lang-auto _linenums:0'>Wert = Wert.substring(1, Wert.length - 1).split(",");</pre>
 
Please give me your suggestions how I could solve this problem.

Ok, it looks like, that BIRT have problems with javascript .length. So I changed from javascript function to birt function to take the length. 
 
<pre class='_prettyXprint _lang-auto _linenums:0'>var i, Wert, newsql;
Wert = "[22,7,5,3,9,10,25,25,27]";
Laenge = (BirtStr.charLength(Wert) -1);
Test = Wert.substring(1, Laenge);</pre>
 
But I have already problems with this code:

How could I split a string wihtin birt?

Array out of bounds means that you are trying to access a array position that doesn't exist. In your case you want to access position 4 but the array only has 4 elements (position 0-3). 
 
I think that the issue is with your for loop. 
 
I got some questions: 
1) Why do you hardcode the loop to a counter of 10? Are you sure that there will always be 10 elements in your array? Error message above says that there are not more then 4 
2) What's the purpose of the if condition? 
<pre class='_prettyXprint _lang-auto _linenums:0'>
if (Wert[i]) {
Wert[i] = "ZE" + Wert[i] + " as SP" + (i + 1);

Do you mean something like 
if(Wert!=null) ? 
Wert doesn't make any sense because it is not a real condition if your array doesn't contain boolean values.

Because I need this for a dynamic SQL Statement in an Query. So the SQL statement should have in max. 10 values and because of this I need max. 10 values in the array. Please see post #1 of this thread. (with javascript I get a string, and with this string (variable) I could build a new sql statement. 
 
I do this with JS like this:

Wert.length = 10;

or with birt function like this:

If I have less than 10 values stored in my array, I have to fill up with dummy (ZE99). Please see also thread #1 
 
My question is, why my script don?t work within birt, but works perfect in any browser.

Wert stores the first, second, third.... value of my array. So the new sql syntax will build correctly.

I think I have found now the problem. On initialize I put following code:

importPackage(Packages.java.util);</pre>
 
Now I have disabled this lines and the reports run correct. Could someone explain me, what java.lang and java.util exactly do? 
 
because if this lines are enabled then I get the following error:

if I disabled this lines it works allright.

Oh i see.
You can use Java inside of Rhino Script. To be able to use java classes you have to provide their fully qualified name. This is true for all Java classes that you want to use in rhino. Rhino is quite similiar to java in case of some class naming conventions. So it's most likely that it was using a java class instead of its own rhino class.

For example:

importPackage(Packages.java.lang)
var x = new String("xyz")

with new String in example above it is unclear if you want to use Rhino s String class or java s string class. I m assuming that the Rhino implementation chooses the java class.

If you change it to
var x = new String("xyz")

It is very clear for the Rhino interpreter because it does no longer conflict with the java String class in the java.lang package

The java classes are much more restrictive in case of parameters, types etc.
