Intermittent OD transaction problem

Hey all

Has anyone ever seen a problem like this?

1) Files get deployed using workflow / filelist; transaction deployment; with do deletes switched on
2) OD (5.01 SP1on Win2K running TS5.01) connects to destination (OD 5.01 SP1 receiver Win2K IIS5.0) and creates the temporary folder "foldername.iwnew"
3) OD publishes to new temp folder then deletes all the old content from "foldername.iwold"
4) OD cant delete the folder "foldername.iwold" so it then deletes everything from "foldername.iwnew"
5) Callback to workflow says deployment was OK

End result:
1) My files are not deployed
2) The existing folder is deleted
3) The website is broken
4) TeamSite thinks everything is OK
5) I get angry users...........
6) I redploy but the 'junk' folders sitting on the web server cannot be deleted

We have had the permissions checked and the folder in question is under the full control of the admin user which runs the OD receiver on the destination......

The really weird thing - you can clean up the mess - put all the folders back - exactly as they were - try the whole process again and hey presto - it works first time........

Am I going mad or are there others out there who would like to start a support group

There are issues with Windows telling OD that files were deleted when in reality they were in a "delete pending" state due to IIS locks. This causes problems when OD tries to delete directories that are reported empty but aren't really (due to the delete pending thing).

I believe those issues were cleared up in the latest OD 501 SP and/or patches. But I suggest upgrading to OD 5.6 SP1 as soon as you can. Smiley Wink

I figured that would be the issue - however we are now in the process of upgrading to OD5.6 SP1 with TS5.5.2 SP3 on Win 2k - and guess what - it doesnt install properly......

As soon as you install the OD components the TS login fails, the OpenAPI has difficulty grabbing port 1099 and the OD UI doesnt come up on the expected port of 8081

IWN Support suggested a 'temporary' workaround - stop the services OD UI, OD Service, Web Deamon, Sevlet Engine and restart in reverse order - this usually fixes the problem - but after a server restart it comes back again.

This is becoming really frustrating and it is also putting our whole upgrade project at risk......

Any assistance you can provide would be really appreciated.

Please continue to work with Interwoven Support - make sure they understand the [time-sensitive] urgency of the situation. For the most part, unless they can reproduce the situation in-house, they'll be limited to taking guesses about what might be happening and what you could do to fix it, but by working with them there will be a log of the activities and other folks from Interwoven (other Support staff, software engineers, consultants, etc.) may be called upon by the person involved with your case, to assist.

We understand the frustration you're going through - often times it gets just as frustrating for us when we cannot reproduce the problem in our own environment because it makes it that much more difficult to thoroughly diagnose and resolve.

If you haven't already done so - pleas make sure to download the latest copy of Supports diagnostic scripts so that you can supply them with the results of running it.

You may want to run it multiple times - once having started just TeamSite without starting OpenDeploy, once the other way (OpenDeploy without TeamSite) and once with both started [or attempted to be started].

It's a time-consuming process to go through, but collecting data like this when there is no other readily apparent cause for the problem, is very important in trying to find, understand, and fix the problem.
