If No records Shown

Hello,

I am new to this BIRT tool and of-course new to this forum.Can any one solve my problem where "If no data found from database" will show the message on the report "DATA NOT FOUND" else will show.I am also attaching the possibilities of output with this mail.Thnx In Advance

Hi,

I'm not sure what you are trying to do but if you are using a store procedure it could be an error saying you that something is wrong in your query (e.g. http://www.techonthenet.com/oracle/questions/no_data.php)

Try, for example, to execute the same sql statement directly on the database to evaluate the problem.

Thanks for responding me.Yeah I am having a Query instead of Stored procedure which shows a blank report,when no data comes from database.There I need to exactly show a message like "NO RECORD FOUND".As no data is there on that particular Date.

This is my solution. Should be improved but maybe could give you some suggestions.

Have a look at the table property Visibility and to the Binding tab of the table.

Try to modify the select statement in Data Set changing the where condition from "where CLASSICMODELS.CUSTOMERS.CUSTOMERNUMBER = 0" to "where CLASSICMODELS.CUSTOMERS.CUSTOMERNUMBER != 0"

I like the approach, icirillo, but for some reason, the text box doesn't seem to pick up the "count" row. The text box was there whether rows were returned, or not. What I've always done is set a variable in the onFetch of the dataSet. If there are no rows, the onFetch script doesn't run and the variable doesn't get set. So, if the variable is null, you show the text box and not the table. I made changes to the design from above.

Figured it out! Instead of your expression on the text box, for visibility, if you put row["count"] != null, it works as you'd expect. I like that solution! So, for anyone who clicks on this thread, the first report will work if you change the visibility expression of the text box to what I show above and the second report will work as is. Two different approaches. Both work.

Thanks mwilliams, yes I know, I tried to put the "row["count"] != null" in the textbox visibility Expression field (this is the most logic thing to do) but strangely it didn't work and even more strangely it worked correctly with row["count"]==0. So I left it in this way. I tried on BIRT Open Source Version: 3.7.2.
