Roadmap for pdf generation with regards to itext
ksajdak
Hi,
I am currrently doing an evaluation for a company which has a requirement to generate pdf reports.
So far the options I shortlisted are Jasper and BIRT, both of them have a dependency on itext to generate pdfs.
Just wondering what the roadmap is for this functionality, now that itext has been licensed agpl it seems to me that this has serious implications for both BIRT and Jasper.
If I am not mistaken, BIRT and jasper are both on the last LGPL version : 2.1.7.
What will happen if there is a bug in itext and the fix is only available in the new agpl licensed version ?
To me this seems like a huge risk, if the BIRT team depends on the next version of itext it would mean that we would either have to open source everything or pay an undisclosed license fee.
So if anybody has any info on this, please share. I really love the BIRT framework and think it's a near perfect match for the requirements at hand. It would be a **** shame if we would go for a different option just because of this.
Best regards,
Kristof

I believe the BIRT team is committed to making any required changes to the LGPL version of iText.

I am on the BIRT PMC and we have discussed this. We have not published any links on this yet. I will discuss with the rest of the PMC.
