Parameter Refresh using Buttons

I wrote a script in the "beforeOpen" event of the dataset in BIRT. Now I am trying to call that Script using a HTML button that I created in the body of the layout. All that script does is refreshes the report taking in the new parameter entered. So the script basically has a function called test() that I need to call.

Could you write your script in html script tags in a html text box, instead of in your beforeOpen of your dataSet?
