Roles in Workflow
GodBlessMe
Can I read the values for roles from text files in my workarea? For example instead of my($contrib_html) = get_names_from_file(undef, 1, undef,
"$roles/author.uid");
can I have
my($contrib_html) = get_names_from_file(undef, 1, undef,
"/main/xyzbranch/WORKAREA/xyzWA/Contrib.txt");?

I don't know - have you tried it? That would be one way to see if it works. It appears that it should probably work, as long as your custom file is of the same format as a roles file. Give it a try. Go crazy.

Has anyone already tried this?

We're all waiting for you to try it. It's not like you're going to break anything, dude. That's what this place is all about - try it and let us know that you achieved joyous success or dismal failure. We can't wait...

It should work just fine - as long as the format of the text file is the same as the format of the conf/roles/*.uid files - which currently means:
userid1
userid2
...
useridN

However, to read the file using Perl you will probably need a valid file path
Ex.
/iwmnt
/main/xyzbranch/WORKAREA/xyzWA/Contrib.txt
not
a vpath
Ex. /main/xyzbranch/WORKAREA/xyzWA/Contrib.txt

True - but you still need to fix that:
/iwmnt/
default/
main/...
--fish
